2024 Early Choices Summer Inclusion Institute

The Summer Inclusion Institute is designed for early childhood education professionals seeking to enhance their understanding and implementation of inclusive practices in classrooms. This event offers a unique opportunity to engage with leading experts in the field, participate in interactive workshops, and collaborate with peers from around the state of Illinois.

The conference features three distinct strands tailored to meet the diverse needs of attendees. The Classroom Level Implementation strand focuses on practical strategies and techniques for creating inclusive classroom environments. The Program Level Implementation strand explores how to integrate inclusive practices across an entire early childhood program. And the Community Level Implementation strand delves into ways to foster inclusive communities through partnerships that support early childhood education.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their team members to the conference to maximize learning and collaboration opportunities. Whether you're a teacher looking to enhance your classroom practices or a program director seeking to create a more inclusive program, the Summer Inclusion Institute offers valuable insights and resources to support your journey towards inclusive early childhood education.

Practical Strategies for Implementing UDL in the Classroom (OPEN)
Every educator's path to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) implementation looks and feels different, as there are hundreds of strategies that align well with the UDL framework. However, there are some common best practices often used during the beginning of implementation that can help move the process of implementation along. This workshop will help educators with moving implementation forward by diving into some high leverage strategies that will get the UDL wheels turning and will help make learning experiences more equitable and inclusive.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Will be able to design a choice board aligned to a specific learning standard

  • Will use 1-3 tech tools that can assist with improving lesson accessibility

  • Will understand how to use the 'Would You Rather' method in learning experiences

What to Bring:

  • Every participant should have a device and reliable internet connection

  • Educators should bring their own lesson plans and materials to the session

Lani Lawson's: "Teach. Train. Thrive." - Part 2 (OPEN)
For certain school district educators, a deeper understanding of behavior is necessary to be able to lead the change in the district. There are many situations in which a more practiced craft is needed to be able to provide students with appropriate support. An added challenge is the vast research-to-practice gap, meaning that many strategies being used in schools are not the most recent or research-based.

This workshop aims to bridge this gap by introducing educators to the newest research-based techniques that have yet to be implemented in schools. Furthermore, participants will gain insights into the underlying causes of common classroom behaviors.

Join us for PART 2 of Lani Lawson's: ''Teach. Train. Thrive.''

Teach ~ Train ~ Thrive Part Two Curriculum:
- Dig Deeper
- Ditch and Switch
- Build Better BIPs
- Supporting Students

  • Research based practices to drop into your classroom immediately

  • Ways to increase positive student behavior without completely changing your teaching style
